MINYO

Why Minyo is fascinating

Minyo carries the history, culture, and everyday lives of people in each region. Through song, you can almost feel the scenery and atmosphere of the place.

For example, when I sing “Dekansho-bushi,” you can sense the food, townscape, nature, and culture of Sasayama. Even the same song changes its expression depending on who sings it—this is one of Minyo’s greatest charms.

I have been fortunate to perform Minyo both in Japan and overseas, encountering local cultures along the way. Sharing Japanese traditional culture internationally has been a true joy for me.

Minyo has the power to connect people across regions and generations. From local communities to international audiences, from children to elders—I hope to continue sharing Minyo with many more people.

Folk song is interesting!

You may not have many opportunities to come into contact with folk songs, but it is very interesting and exciting to think that songs that have been sung in daily life for a long time have been turned into music! The Tsugaru shamisen is also a musical instrument from the Tsugaru region (Aomori Prefecture), and it is a profound instrument with a powerful tone that can withstand the cold of the Tohoku region and a delicacy within it. Please enjoy such traditional Japanese music!
